I have been running corporate team building programs on Lake Lanier for over two decades. In that time, I have hosted groups from companies you would recognize immediately - Fortune 500 names, fast-growing startups, and everything in between. And every single time, someone says the same thing: "Why didn't we do this years ago?" Here is why sailing works as team building in ways that ropes courses and escape rooms never will.
Nobody Can Check Their Email
I am only half joking. Cell signal gets unreliable once you are out on the lake, and that is one of the best things about it. Your team members cannot sneak a peek at Slack or respond to that "urgent" email from accounting. For the first time in months, they are actually present with each other. That alone changes the dynamic.
Sailing Requires Actual Teamwork
Our most popular corporate program is Team N' Ship Sailing. We split your group into crews, assign roles - helmsman, navigator, sail trim, lookout - and then run a friendly regatta race across the lake. Every crew member has a job that matters. If your navigator reads the wind wrong or your sail trimmer is slow, the whole boat feels it. It is the closest thing to real teamwork most office workers ever experience.
The Programs We Offer
We have built five distinct programs over the years, each designed for different group sizes and energy levels:
Team N' Ship Sailing - The flagship. Crew assignments, sailing instruction, and a competitive regatta. Works for 6-18 people.
Fun Run Pontoon Adventure - A water-based road rally with navigation challenges across the lake. Great for larger groups who want something less physically demanding.
Treasure Hunt Pontoon Adventure - Pirate-themed island exploration with clues, challenges, and hidden treasure. Surprisingly competitive with corporate types.
Lanier Cardboard Regatta - Teams design, build, and race boats made entirely of cardboard and tape. The engineering-minded groups love this one. The boats that sink create the best memories.
Islands Scramble Golf Cart Challenge - A land-based option along the Lake Lanier shoreline for groups that prefer to stay on solid ground.
Logistics That HR Will Appreciate
We are docked at Safe Harbor Aqualand Marina in Flowery Branch, about 40 minutes north of Atlanta. There is plenty of free parking, and several lakeside restaurants nearby for post-event meals. We can accommodate groups of 6 to 50+, with pricing starting at $105 per person for a half-day group charter. For larger events, we bring in multiple vessels and additional staff.
What Makes It Stick
I have had teams come back three, four, five years running. Not because their boss makes them, but because they want to. The memories stick. People talk about the time their cardboard boat held together for exactly eleven seconds. Or the time the quiet developer from the backend team turned out to be a natural at reading the wind. These are the stories that build culture. Not another PowerPoint in a hotel conference room.
